Short biography

Florian Mai is a PhD candidate in the Natural Language Understanding group at Idiap Research Institute under the supervision of James Henderson and EPFL. His research focuses on learning representations for sentences; particular focus is on representations that model information abstraction. Eventually, He wants to reuse them in applications that require abstract reasoning, such as opinion summarization. During his master's studies, he worked as a student research assistant at Leibniz Information Centre for Economics - ZBW. He studied many different NLP-related topics, including topical document classification in digital libraries, text retrieval, and citation recommendation.

He received a BSc and MSc in Computer Science from Christian-Albrechts-Universitaet zu Kiel.
